Great Expectations

So Steve Finn takes nine wickets, on his home ground, in - for the most part, favourable bowling conditions, against the worst test team in the world...

And suddenly he's the second coming of Glenn McGrath?

  1. Bah humbug.

wearing the harry-optimistic-hat, I'd say he has the physical attributes, his height makes him different from our other seamers - and, if used well, is a tremendous asset (can we get Curtly to coach him?)

Our pace bowling attack is ok, but fragile. I wouldnt pick Broad to bowl for my life, Sidearse is surely on his last legs, Pierce isn't a test bowler, I think Onions could be the new Hoggy, but he isnt yet, and p'raps should be by now.

So if Finn can develop, he could make a massive difference to our Ashes chances. That is a huge "if"...

What this test has done, I hope, is given him the confidence to bowl "properly". All bowlers - all sportsmen - know the value of confidence. It won't last long if he gets a pasting, but it's a fantastic start.

  2. It's a long way, literally and metaphorically, from an overcast St Johns Wood in May to a very hot Brisbane in November.

  3. ...we're allowed to dream, aren't we ;)

C'mon, join in the excitement and fevered anticipation!

I read today that Adam Gilchrist, no less, rates him highly ... although he does also admit to never having met or seen him
